Character development is a very important part of Carbon Valley Academy's Mission Statement. Each month, we focus on a specific "Character Trait" and provide valuable lessons and content that focuses on the trait. Students can earn" Stallion Awards" for demonstrating good behavior and character and are able to earn individual prizes as well as class prizes with these "Stallion Awards." One student is recognized per grade level each month as the recipient of the "Character Corral" award. These students show exemplary character and are recognized by the Board of Directors at their monthly board meeting.
Kelly Kurz heads up the character education program at Carbon Valley Academy. Mrs. Kurz has served as the school counselor at Carbon Valley Academy since the spring of 2006. She has eleven years experience in Hospice Social Work and was a part of a "pediatric team" that worked primarily with kids and families in Hospice. She was humbled by the kids ability to cope and thrive through difficult situations and was thrilled when the opportunity to work with kids was available at CVA.
Mrs. Kurz is a Colorado native and grew up in Erie. She attended CSU and received a Bachelors degree in Social Work. Mrs. Kurz lives with her husband, a Science Teacher, and two young daughters in her hometown of Erie.
Work Hard, Be Nice. These four little words mean a lot at Carbon Valley Academy. The CVA learning environment encourages students to achieve academically while building strong personal character. The essence of these nine Character Traits are nicely summed up in Carbon Valley Academy's motto: Work Hard, Be Nice.
