After School Enrichment Programs Offered by Carbon Valley Academy

 

Carbon Valley Academy does offer many exciting after school enrichment programs. Enrichment Program Application available here. Volunteers are always needed for programs to be successful, please contact instructors about volunteering. Wait lists will be established after programs are filled. A minimum amount of scholarships are available upon request.

 

Current year activities include the following:

 

Carbon Valley Academy students in the gymBefore School/After School Homework Club

Kindergarten – 8th Grades

Instructor: Mrs. Moreland

Monday – Friday when school is in session

Before School: 6:00 am – 7:45 am

After School: 3:15 pm – 6:00 pm

$5 per student/session/day

Students are given time to complete any homework they may have. Extra activities are centered around current curriculum. Snacks are provided daily.

 

Band

3rd – 8th Grades

Instructor: Ms. Vancura

Mondays 3:30 pm– 4:30 pm

Starting January 9, 2012

$30 per semester

Maximum number of participants: 20

Beginning and continuing band. Traditional instruments, woodwinds, brass and percussion.

 

Orchestra

3rd – 8th Grades

Instructor: Ms. Vancura

Mondays 4:45 pm– 5:45 pm

Starting January 9, 2012

$30 per semester

Maximum number of participants: 20

Beginning and continuing orchestra. Traditional string instruments.

 

Choir ConcertChoir

6th – 8th Grades

Thursdays 3:30 pm– 4:30 pm

Starting January 12, 2012

Beginning Choir – Students will learn how to read music and learn how to perform different cultural music.

 

Beginning Chess Club

Kindergarten – 3rd Grade

Instructor: Lori Saine

Thursdays 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm

Starting January 10, 2012

$20 per semester

Maximum number of participants: 20

For beginning and continuing chess players. Children will learn basic chess skills.

 

Advanced Chess Club

4th – 8th Grade

Instructor: Mr. DiRosa

Wednesdays 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm

$20 per semester

Maximum number of participants: 20

For beginning and continuing chess players. Students will utilize their knowledge of chess by competing with each other.

 

Lego Club

Kindergarten – 4th Grade

Instructor: TBA

Wednesdays 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm

Starting January 11, 2012

$20 per semester

Maximum number of participants: 20

Children will be given direction on how to build and design with Legos.

 

Odyssey of the Mind teamOdyssey of the Mind

2nd – 8th Grades

Instructor: Mrs. Biggs (along with parent volunteers as coaches)

Thursdays 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm

Starting September 22, 2011

$75 per semester; additional fees may apply

Maximum number of participants: 7 members per coach

Team building and problem solving activities. Competitions from local to national world finals levels. Students must maintain a "C" average or better to participate in all OM activities.

 

Golf Club

Kindergarten – 8th Grade

Instructor: Rick Price (Bella Rosa Golf Pro)

Wednesdays 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm for 10 year olds and over

Thursdays 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm for 9 year olds and under

Starts March 2012

$30 for 7 week class

Maximum number of participants: 15 per age group

Beginning and continuing golf instruction.

 

Soccer Club

2nd – 8th Grade

Instructors: Coach Ramsaur and Coach Eisner

Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm

Starts March 2012

$30 for Spring Season

Maximum number of participants: 40

Beginning and continuing soccer instruction.

 

All School Musical

Kindergarten – 8th Grade

Instructor: Ms. Vancura

Thursdays and Fridays

Starting in January, 2012. Contact Ms. Vancura for more information.

Maximum number of participants: no maximum

Students will be introduced to the world of live theatre and musicals.

 

Mad Science

Kindergarten – 8th Grade

Instructor: Instructor from Mad Science

Spring Semester Only; information to follow

Cost of participation pending (Last year's cost was $135 for 8 weeks. All payments are made to Mad Science)

Students will learn science methods and procedures. Participate in science experiments.

 

Pink Sneakers

3rd – 8th Grade GIRLS ONLY

Spring Semester Only; information to follow

$25 towards t-shirts and race fees

Girls will train for a 5K run held in May.
