Volunteer Opportunities:
Lunch Volunteers: A quick, easy way to get your volunteer hours.
Lunch volunteers are needed to serve lunch on a weekly basis. You must be available from 10:45 to 1:00. Promptness is a must, you will be serving students, cleaning the serving area and taking inventory of lunch items. Due to other classes still going on during the lunch hour, younger children will not be allowed to be with you behind the counter.
If you are available once a week any day Monday - Friday, please email kajcienskis@cvamail.com.
Moving into CVSA: The Secondary Academy will be opening at the end of the week and we need some volunteers. On Saturday, August 12th, beginning at noon, we will be moving the furniture and supplies from the elementary school to the secondary school. We appreciate anyone who is willing and able to help please come on by. We will meet at the elementary school.
The Secondary Academy also needs outdoor furniture. We are trying to create a gathering/picnic area for the students. We are looking for donations of tables, chairs, benches, umbrellas, and canopies. We are willing to pick up, and we will accept cash donations .
All donations will receive volunteer credit. Please contact Paul Trautwein regarding your donation.
Carbon Valley Academy Charter Schools will hold an Open House on Friday, August 15th from 3 – 7 pm at CVA. Students may bring their school supplies to school and leave them at their desk so they won't be loaded down on the 1st day of school.

Fall Festival News
CVA's 2nd Annual Fall Festival was a huge success! The families that participated in the Trunk-or-Treat portion had amazing trunks decorated and were ready to hand out candy to the children. The teachers and students did a great job in decorating the doorways in each classroom and the Trick-or-Treating continued inside. The gym rocked with a D.J., and other fabulous activities for everyone to enjoy. There was a cake walk, bake sale, bouncing castle, pumpkin bowling, scarecrow relay race, hay maze with hidden treasures, free popcorn and slurpies. Congratulations to those who won the incredible prizes for the best costume, favorite trunk-or-treat and best doorway! The Events Committee worked extremely hard on making this event so wonderful, but they couldn't have done it without all of the volunteers, teachers and students. We truly have an amazing school!!
Congratulations to Bonnie and Shawn Steinbrecher for winning 1st place in the Trunk-or-Treat contest with their Carbon Valley Airlines trunk! Our own Mrs. Romero won 2nd place with her BAT mobile.
1st Place Pumpkin - Curtis Lewis
2nd Place Pumpkin - Rachel Natal

Junior Achievement to Visit Carbon Valley Academy on November 13
JA's mission is to inspire and prepare young people to embrace free enterprise and succeed in a global economy. JA uses hands-on experiences to help students understand the "economics of life." Students at Carbon Valley Academy will have the opportunity to participate in Junior Achievement on Tuesday, November 13.
Junior Achievement's curriculum is designed to help each student explore different career opportunities, learn basic economic concepts and identify role models and goals for his or her life. Parents of Carbon Valley Academy students will teach innovative, hands-on lesson plans while acting as invaluable role models in the classroom. As they bring in their own life experience into the classroom they will promote a positive attitude toward education and work.
The Junior Achievement-in-a-day format enables students to receive the entire elementary school curriculum over the course of one school day. This one day event is a great way to impact students. Parent volunteers will teach five 45 minute lessons in this format. Junior Achievement provides the volunteers with all of the materials, training and support needed to teach these lessons. Volunteers just need to review them advance. No prior teaching experience is required.
Studies show that students who participate in JA demonstrate an increased desire to stay in school, a sense of personal economic empowerment, and a positive attitude towards entering the workforce.
We are excited to partner with Junior Achievement for this unique opportunity.
