Carbon Valley Academy is a charter school founded on the belief that our students, parents and community deserve a high-quality education that exceeds educational standards. Carbon Valley Academy realizes the power of data to personalize and individualize the learning process. We utilize quarterly collected NWEA MAP data for grades 3-8, I-Ready data for grades 1-3, and TS Gold data for Kindergarten. This data observes student progress, and evaluates and adjusts instructional practices, which enhances individual student performance. CVA also focuses on building students’ character while challenging them to work at their ability level.
Carbon Valley Academy believes in high parental involvement within the school setting. Parents volunteer in the classroom, in the library, on various committees and at special events.
Serving the communities of Firestone, Frederick, Dacono and the surrounding areas, Carbon Valley Academy uses a Core Knowledge based curriculum in all grades, including preschool. Spanish, art, technology, music and physical education are also taught, along with a number of popular enrichment programs and extracurricular activities.
As a charter school, we offer a more rigorous curriculum as well as creative options for students who are not being challenged to their potential. We are ultimately accountable to the local board of education, and submit an application every three to five years to continue school operations. However, we are not governed by them and are instead run by a parent and community board of directors.
Carbon Valley Academy is a “school of choice,” which means parents and students choose this method of education versus their neighborhood schools. Since we have behavioral expectations for our students in the classroom, all parents and students are given a complete discipline policy at the beginning of their school year and must sign a contract with CVA in order to complete registration.
