Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of an Educational institution such as Carbon Valley Academy K-8 will have as part of their many goals and responsibilities an oversight of the school’s educational goals, including determining policies, hiring a superintendent, and setting budgets.

These responsibilities are essential to the school’s success, and they are a part of the Board’s mission that they must fulfill through a broad array of duties. Each school board member plays their function as a team member, an advocate for public education, and a liaison to the public.

Christa Cook Burger
Board Member & Treasurer

Christa Cook Burger has been a cornerstone of the Carbon Valley Academy community for over twelve years. What began as a commitment to volunteering has evolved into a long-term leadership role on the Board of Directors, where she has served for many years and currently holds the position of Treasurer.

Her dedication to the school is deeply personal; as a CVA parent, her own children have either graduated from or are currently attending the academy. This firsthand experience as a parent fuels her passion for ensuring CVA remains a place where students truly belong.

Professionally, Christa brings a level of strategic discipline from the world of cybersecurity governance, risk, and compliance. She uses this executive expertise to provide oversight and long-term planning, ensuring the school’s mission is supported by strong policy and fiscal health. For Christa, governance is about creating a stable and transparent foundation so that educators can focus on what they do best and every student has the opportunity to thrive.

Wayne V. Reyburn
Vice President of the Board

Wayne Reyburn believes that whether you’re in a boardroom or on a basketball court, success comes down to two things: a solid plan and a lot of heart. Since 2005, Wayne has built a career in financial services by helping people navigate complex futures. After years at a boutique firm in Boulder, he launched his own venture, RW Capital, in 2013. As a specialist in premium financing, he has managed over $1 billion in life insurance policies—a testament to the sharp, critical thinking he brings to our school board.

Wayne has been a dedicated member of the Carbon Valley Academy Board of Directors for many years, currently serving as Vice President. His commitment to the school is deeply personal, as all three of his children—Blayke, Tyler, and Torey—are proud CVA alumni. Having seen his own children grow through the school’s programs, Wayne is uniquely driven to ensure every student has the same foundation of character and support.

When he isn’t in a board meeting, Wayne is a fixture in local youth sports. He spearheaded an Upward basketball program that grew to serve over 400 players across Frederick, Firestone, Longmont, and Niwot. Whether he’s coaching competitive baseball, officiating high school games, or cheering on his children in their college sports careers, Wayne’s life is defined by the values of teamwork and discipline. He is here to make sure CVA continues to be a place where those same values help students succeed in every arena of life.

Severin Bartmess
Board Member & Secretary

A resident of Dacono, Severin Bartmess is deeply committed to the growth and well-being of the Carbon Valley area. Professionally, Severin has spent over 14 years as a software engineer, helping a variety of Colorado startups find their footing. Today, he serves as a Staff Engineer, leading software architecture and delivery with the same analytical precision he brings to our Board.

Severin holds a degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from Colorado State University, but it’s his passion for inclusive education that truly drives his work at CVA. He is a firm believer in the Academy’s mission to meet every child exactly where they are. He especially values how CVA creates a space for students who might struggle in traditional settings—prioritizing creativity, empathy, and kindness alongside academic growth.

As Board Secretary, Severin is dedicated to ensuring Carbon Valley Academy remains a welcoming, supportive “home base” for all students. He works to protect the supportive environment that allows our kids to not just learn, but to truly thrive as individuals.
