Welcome to the final week of school this decade!

Modern band is sounding great on Netflix Trip and making progress on The Office Theme Song, and approaching readiness to embark on the next song for our upcoming performance (date TBA, near the end of Trimester 2).

Music Composition students are off to a good start on our Protest Songs, and will be putting their knowledge of musical form into practice this week.

Grades K-2 are working on beginning music notation and music composition for the coming weeks before Winter Break!

Grades 3-5 are continuing to hone ukulele skills and reading chord charts, as well as compositing their own basic chord progressions.  These grade levels are also beginning curriculum to prep them for our upcoming concert field trip.  More on that to come!

Week of 11/18/19

Thank you to all for a successful Fall Music Program!  The importance of your attendance and support cannot be understated.  Here's what's happening in music class this week:

K-2:  With performance prep season and the first trimester behind us, our focus shifts to music theory and creation.  Students will be learning and advancing their music reading abilities, and then putting that knowledge into practice by writing out their very own compositions!

3-5:  Our focus is also shifting towards music theory and creation this trimester in grades 3-5.  Students will learn to select their own chord progressions and strumming patterns, as well as write lyrics and melodies to their own songs.  In addition, these grade levels will be exploring curriculum related to our upcoming concert field trip to the Boulder Philharmonic's Discovery Concert!

Modern band students are cultivating the 21st century skills of communication and collaboration in selecting our first song of the trimester using the Padlet platform.

Music Composition students are getting comfortable navigating Bandlab software and using the Bandlab audio workstation to begin putting their knowledge of the fundamentals of musical arrangement into practice.

Week of 11/11/19 - FALL MUSIC PROGRAM INFO

Hello!
The fall music program is upon us!  Thursday, November 14th @ 5:30.

Please have your students in their classrooms at 5:15.

The theme is "Jungle."  If you happen to have any props, backdrops, etc. that will help dress up our stage and gym to fit the theme, please let me know!

Students may choose to dress up in a way that fits the general theme (animals are great, safari gear, Tarzan-type stuff is good too), something specific to their grade level's song, or wear their standard uniforms.

K - "Jungle Animals Song" (animals are tiger, elephant, crocodile, monkey, giraffe, hippo)
1st - "Three Little Birds" (anything positive/happy like especially the Sun, or for example rainbows fits the theme, as well as birds)
2nd - "Day-O" (Banana boat song - banana props or costumes would fit)
3rd - "Eye of the Tiger" (Tigers fit here, please no Rocky-inspired costumes)
4th - "Thunder" (Lightning bolt or cloud costumes/props)
5th - "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" (Lions and nighttime/sleep themes will work here)

Thank you all for your support!  Please let me know if you have questions or I'm forgetting something.  One more thing--The Discovery Concert field trip to CU Boulder will be Friday, Feb 21st (grades 3-6)

Week of 10/28/19

**Fall music program is Thursday, November 14th!  Students are to be in their classrooms at 5:15.   Please mark your calendars and plan to attend.  All students K-5 will be performing!**

**Ukulele forms for 3rd** I am still missing a few forms from the Smith/Engle class..  Please turn in your forms if you haven't already done so! If you are interested in purchasing your own uke (either for your personal ownership or as a donation to the school), please email me: thomas.burrish@cvamail.com as I can get you a discount on the setups we use currently. I usually advise against getting other setups if you aren't knowledgable about ukes, as there are many low-quality instruments out there that will lead to more frustration than music-making :)

Were in full concert prep mode in K-5 classes! Songwriting class is working on a spooky song for the Halloween season.  Modern Band is rocking out on our second song and chugging along steadily towards performance prep.
