Welcome School Year 2020-2021!
Middle School Expectations
Ms. Asher, Ms. Boettger, Ms. Reynolds
It is our goal that the middle school students be the leaders of our school and looked upon by all grade levels as examples of positive academic success and character development. With this in mind, we have put together the following policies that you will be expected to follow at school and any school functions.
- Before/After school and Lunch lineup - It is expected that you will line up in our approved area, silently, hands to yourselves, proper dress code attire, listening, and ready to enter or exit the building.
- Hallway Behavior - You will proceed through the hallways with hands by your side or in your pockets, silently, in a single file line on the right side of the hallway. At intersections, you will allow younger grades, teachers, and other staff to pass before you proceed. The first people in the line are expected to hold doors for the remainder of the group, and there is no need to verbally thank the person holding the door as it is implied.
- Bathrooms - You may use the restrooms during your passing period. It is expected that you clean up all messes, flush toilets, and wash hands with soap before leaving the bathroom. Follow your teacher’s bathroom policies inside of the classroom. If there is an issue in the bathroom that you cannot take care of, direct it to a middle school teacher immediately.
- Free Read Book - CVA wishes to continue working on literacy goals each year and to help with this, we are required that for all leadership, content classes, and electives you will bring a “free read book”. This book is to stay under your desk until the teacher has told you it is okay to take it out.
- Clean-Up Schedule - In order to maintain the cleanliness of our lunchroom all middle schoolers will be required to assist our lunchroom aids in cleaning. Posted in all middle school teacher’s rooms will be a schedule that will be prominently posted. You are expected to know your schedule and make arrangements with others if you're unable to fulfill your duties for that day. It is also required that you follow any instructions given to you by the lunchroom aides.
- Color Guard - Students with the assignment of Color Guard will be given time during the first 10 minutes and last 10 minutes of the day to put up, and take down our flags. The classroom teacher will notify you if it is at full or half staff that day.
- General Policies - The following are policies that we expect you to follow daily.
- No Gum Chewing
- No food in class unless specifically authorized by the teacher
- Only water will be allowed in water bottles in classrooms.
- Unless a teacher is in the room and you have asked permission, you need to stand outside the classroom and wait.
- Dress code uniforms must be followed at all times.
- No cellphones in the class unless specifically authorized by the teacher.
- All content specific material brought to class each day
- Always respect your learning environment, and of your classmates.
- Have a positive, can-do attitude! This is going to be a great year!
- First incident: the teacher will make sure you know what you are expected to do. You may be moved to a quieter place.
- Second incident: the teacher will make sure you know what you are expected to do and help you do what is expected. You will be moved to a quieter place.
- Third incident: you will be moved and asked to complete a reflection sheet and your parents will be called.
Assignments and Assessments:
It is important that assignments are completed and returned on time.
Should a student need extended time to complete a particular assignment or assessment or have difficulty with a portion of the content being studied, options are as follows:
- Complete the work during Study hall
- Complete the work at home.
Grades:
Students will be assessed on a traditional grading scale, (A=100-90%, B=89-80%, C=79-70%, D=69-60%, F=59% and below). In-class daily work, activities and projects will be 40% of a student grades with assessments of learning as the remaining 60%. If a student scores below a 70% on a cumulative assessment, the student and teacher will work to remediate the topics. The student will then retake the test; full credit will be shown for the improved score.
Make- Up Work:
It is the student's responsibility to make arrangements with their teacher prior to their absence, (if possible) to gather any notes and/or assignments which need to be completed. If it is not possible to make arrangements prior to the absence, it is expected that arrangements will be made the day of the students return to school. Students are typically given one day for each day absent to complete make-up work.
Please remember I’m here to make sure that your child has a successful year. If you have any questions or concerns about the requirements, policies, or how your student is doing in class please contact me at any time either by phone, CVA Extension 134 or email:
